You will be asked one tell me question before driving and one show me question while driving. The safest preparation is to understand the controls and practise the answers in the car, not just memorise a script.

Getting one or both questions wrong normally results in one driving fault. Driving dangerously while answering the show me question can result in a fail.
Theory test
Revise the rules. Train your hazard awareness.
The car theory test has a multiple-choice part and a hazard-perception part. You need to pass both, so build practice into the week rather than cramming at the end.
Practise before paying for a date
Use free practice material to spot weak topics, then book when your results are consistently comfortable rather than relying on one lucky mock score.
Only use the official booking service
Third-party sites can charge more. GOV.UK shows the current official fee and asks for your licence number, email address and payment card.
How long might learning take?
A useful guide, not a promise.
There is no minimum number of lessons. Experience, confidence, private practice, lesson regularity and how quickly skills become independent all make a difference.
That gives forty hours of professional tuition as a simple planning example.
Some learners need less. Many need more, especially without private practice.
Twenty weekly lessons is roughly twenty weeks before holidays, cancellations or test availability.
The honest version
Your progress matters more than hitting a number. Lessons continue until you can manage roads, decisions and mistakes safely without prompts. Progress reviews make it clear what is secure and what still needs work.
